10 Carpet-Cleaning secrets from the Pros

Maintaining the carpets at home is certainly not an easy task. And if you have children or pets too, we can understand the pain that you feel every time your carpet has to go through any physical abuse. But like everything else, even carpet cleaning comes with a few tips and tricks that are often known only to the people who are in the carpet cleaning profession. But we bring them to you...

We have got you these 10 Carpet-cleaning secrets from the Pros, to be used straight into your drawing room or your living room.

Never rub stains, blot them instead

As a thumb rule, never rub stains! Rubbing stains will only allow the particles of the stain to set deeper into the fibers of the carpet and permanently damaging them. Bloat stains by putting a little pressure on them so any excess liquid is absorbed before treating it further. You can use a clean cloth, paper towel, or a sponge to blot. Another key factor is to bloat the stain from outside to the inside; blotting outwards will only spread the stain.

Use Shaving Cream to remove stains

The ordinary shaving cream at your home can work wonders on most of the stains on your carpet. Apply the shaving cream directly to the stain and let it sit for almost 30 minutes. Once the cream has set in, you should blot it away using a clean, dry, white cloth. Mix one part vinegar with one part water to make a solution and spray it on the stain. End the process by wiping away the solution with a dry cloth.

Freeze the gum

One of the messiest affairs is to try and clean away the chewing gum that has made way to your carpet under some unfortunate circumstances. However, if experts are to be believed, using ice cubes on the gum makes it much easier. Use ice cubes on the gum for about 30 seconds to freeze it completely and then using a spoon, scoop out the glob and cut the strands of the carpet near the gum.

Dishwashing detergent to kick out grease

Another stubborn stain that can damage your carpet permanently if not treated properly is the grease stain. Mix a few drops of dishwashing detergent in a cup of water to make a solution. Spray the solution on the stain and blot it up using a clean, dry towel. Repeat the process until the stain disappears permanently and you get satisfactory results.

Cleaning Candies

If you have kids at home, you might have to use this one time and again! Scrape the candy using a butter knife or a spotter brush; mix a mild soap in little water and use sponge to apply it to the stain. Gently dab and try to remove all the sugar from the carpet since it can attract dirt and debris often and easily. Once the candy is removed completely, dab the spot with a dry towel or cloth.

Use the Club Soda magic

Club Soda has been found to be effective in removing a number of carpet stains including beer and wine stains. Blot the stained area with club soda on a cloth, spray the Vinegar-water solution on the stain and let it sit for around 15 minutes. Dab a clean towel or paper against the spot to soak up any extra solution.

Clean pet stains organically

Even if you have a well-trained pet, there are high probabilities; you will have to deal with their mess sometime or the other. But always remember to avoid using chemicals on pet stains. Instead use organic cleaners that are available in the market in the form of sprays. Spray the cleaner on the carpet stain; you might have to scrub it a little too. End the process by wiping the cleaner and blotting the spot using a dry towel or a cloth. Such stain cleaners can also be used for other stains such as stains of coffee or sauce.

Use Hydrogen Peroxide

Use Hydrogen Peroxide as a sure shot stain remover for blood stains. If the blood stains have dried, loosen them first by spraying a mixture of mild detergent and water on them. Once the stain has loosened, try to scrape it from the fibers as much as it is possible without damaging the fibers. Now apply Hydrogen Peroxide directly to the remaining stain; when Hydrogen peroxide contacts Blood, it foams instantly, so you should not get startled at that. Finally, dab the spot with a dry towel to leave the carpet dry.

Heat wax to remove it

If you have drops of wax that have dripped on your carpet, you can easily remove them by heating them. Cover the wax drips with a white cloth and iron it for no more than 30 seconds. Once the wax is warm, scrape it off with a butter knife. After this, cover the area with a paper towel and run iron it. This will melt the wax and bind it to the paper. You can repeat the process until you get satisfactory results. But make sure to use only white cloth since colored clothes can transfer color on the carpet, when they are hot.

Regular deep cleaning

An expert advises that a carpet should be deep cleaned every six months for its durability. The process keeps the carpet looking like new and feels fresh. Steam cleaning helps to extract all the dirt and debris in the carpet. The water makes way into the fibers of the carpet, loosens the embedded soil and helps to remove stains of grease, oil and leaving the carpet as clean as new.

When you dedicate a little time on the maintenance of your carpet, you can reap its benefits in the form of your carpet’s prolonged durability, beauty and hygiene. These 10 Carpet-cleaning secrets from the pros are sure to help you in your endeavor.
