There are many  different types of cleaning chemicals available in the market. Most advertisements show their remarkable photoshopped results in cleaning to a Godly level. Many clients buy these products and use on their marble without reading the instructions. Most of the times, the culprit is the maid who does not know any better and uses any available chemical to provide a quick cleaning. Do not believe youtube videos that are made to grab eyeballs by people who have no background in marble polishing. Chemicals available at home like Vinegar can cause damage to the marble. Below is a list of chemicals that should not be used on marbles

Toilet Cleaners like Harpic, Domex work well on tiles and ceremics but will badly damage the marble or chips floor. Since these chemicals are very concentrated and are thick, the results are usually visible as dark coloured lined on the floor. These look especially bad and can only be removed by diamond polishing.

Tile Cleaning chemicals like easy off bang,  Roff cera are used for removing hard water stains from tiles or fittings. These chemicals are not to be used on marble. When white marble is cleaned with these chemicals, for some time the colour seems to become whiter and clean. However at microscopic level, the chemical destroys the marble and opens up small pores which get filled with dirt over time and the marble starts looking very bad. This necessitates a repeat application of this chemical leading to an endless cycle which stops when the marble is completely destroyed.

Detergents like Rin, Surf, Tide etc are for cleaning clothes. Many you tube videos have been made which promote use of these detergents for cleaning marbles. Mostly they use these on white Indian marbles which have a layer of wax.  These detergents will cause lasting damage to the marble which would only be repaired by grinding/polishing.
